There is an old Zen parable about a scholar who came to learn from a Zen master. When the Zen master tried to share information, the scholar was quick to offer his own thoughts and ideas. As the scholar continued to talk, the Zen master poured a cup of tea. He continued to pour until the cup was overflowing.
The scholar exclaimed, “Stop! Can’t you see? The cup is full.”
The Zen master then replied, “This is you. How can I teach you Zen unless you empty your cup?”
There is much to be learned from this story. If you are so full of your own thoughts, opinions and beliefs, how could you ever be able to take on a new perspective or learn something new? By emptying your cup of old beliefs, old life scripts, and repeated solutions, you open yourself to new ideas, new solutions, different outcomes, and potentially easier ways to experience your life and achieve your goals.
Sometimes, you just need to discard an old up of tea and pour yourself a new one.
Since my vacation with my son in Montana this summer (AMAZING by the way), there is no doubt in my mind that the future I seek requires me to empty my cup and pour a new one. It’s time for me to release what I think SHOULD happen, release my version of the solutions, and be open to other possibilities and opportunities. Perhaps my old ways, my old thoughts, and my old answers have been limiting me from my future success. There may be a new HOW to launch me to my end goal more smoothly and with less stress.
Spiritually, there’s a good chance that the person I am truly meant to become will only be possible once the new cup of tea has been poured.
What opportunities could exist for you if you allowed yourself to empty your cup and pour a new one? What new version of yourself and your life could be possible? Send me message. I would love to hear from you.
Always with love,
Heather
