Real work happens in the cocoon.
Ever stop to think about that? Caterpillars don’t miraculously turn into butterflies or moths overnight. In fact, these transformations typically happen over days to weeks. As a transformation coach, the cocoon fascinates me because heavy-duty change happens in that cocoon. Did you know that during this metamorphosis the old caterpillar body dies (it literally digests itself from the inside out), and a new butterfly body is formed. OMG and HELLO! Total rebirth and recreation of a new version of self.
What does this have to do with transformation coaching?
Here’s the thing about transformation coaching. While we are not physically digesting ourselves from the inside out (Ew! And gross!), we are breaking down old beliefs and old ways of thinking. We are digesting our past experiences and learning from them. We are breaking down the lessons learned from old relationships and old hurts. You will learn to keep those elements of your life that are positive, nurturing and constructive, while discarding those elements that are negative and no longer work for you.
The transformation process takes time. REAL TIME. It’s absolutely not going to happen overnight, but we will create small mini-transformational goals along the way so that you feel empowered and energized by your growth. We create a path and vision, and every time you hit a small success we celebrate. And then, when you look back at yourself a year later, 5 years later, even 10 years later, you’ll realize that the life you were living was clearly one of the caterpillar, and that now you have become your butterfly (or a moth, if that’s what you prefer).
But here’s the gold nugget, the secret sauce…you always have a choice. Do you choose to go into the cocoon and transform, or would you rather remain the same and feel bitter or stuck? What could your life look like if you embraced the cocoon?
The cocoon is a necessary part of transformation. You have to sit in it for as long as you need, and you have to transform for as long as it takes. And if we work together, you won’t be sitting there alone.
Always with love,
Heather
