When I was an anesthesia cardio-thoracic fellow, every morning one of the cardiac surgical fellows would come into the OR and announce how many years, months, and days he had left of his fellowship. It was predictable, always a big joke, and I didn’t think anything of it at the time.
Years later, I ran into an anesthesia colleague of mine who worked with that fellow, now a cardiac surgeon, and I asked my friend “how is he? Please say hello.”
My friend responded that he was the exactly the same—in the morning he would come into the OR and announce how many years, months and days he had left to retire.
That encounter many years ago left such an impact on me. In fact, it haunts me that many people live their lives counting the days until retirement, waiting to start living.
What are we all doing here? Just waiting for retirement to finally enjoy our lives?
I say NO.
Stop waiting for life to START at some point in the future.
- When I finish school…
- When I get married…
- When I have kids…
- When my kids are out of the house…
- When I retire…
It’s time to enjoy life NOW!
I’m here to change that—part of living authentically is creating a life that feels purposeful and joyful now. Let’s create the life that you want to enjoy. It’s time to cultivate all those experiences and situations you think you want once you retire.
Always with love,
Heather
