When a seed is planted, there is a period of time for germination. And of course, depending on the particular seed, germination can happen in as little as a few days or as long as a month. The average time for germination is 1-2 weeks, but many plants like parsley and asparagus take longer. Germination can’t be rushed and each plant takes the exact amount of time it needs to grow into whatever it was meant to be.
Just like the seed, we require germination in order to grow. When we are feeling dark or stuck in challenge, we have been planted. These times become an opportunity for reflection, re-evaluation, self discovery and growth if we choose to see it that way. And like the seed, we each have our own unique timeframe for personal transformation and germination. We can’t compare our journey with anyone else’s.
I remember a couple years ago, I experienced an unexpected breakup. At the time, it was one of the most dark and painful times of my life. My world and the future I imagined was gone in a split second. It was hurtful, painful and unsettling. I felt as if the Universe literally picked me, shook me, threw me across the room and said, “OK, Heather. Start now!” And I did. After getting over my “why me?” phase, I reflected on my life and my goals. I re-evaluated who I was, who I was spending time with, how I was living, and what I wanted my future to look like. And then, I did the unthinkable. I started on a journey to become the person you know today. I made changes in my job, my finances, my relationships and my personal life.
When I look back now on that painful moment, I realize that it was one of the best things to ever happen in my life. Within the darkness, I was planted. I needed to be planted so that I could grow into a better version of myself and create my life as I know it. (And of course, I’m still growing.) Believe it or not, I’m grateful for that experience. Seriously. Grateful. Every day.
Has there been a moment that felt uncomfortable for you, and yet looking back you realize it was for the best? Have you had a life changing event? I would love to hear from you, hear your story, and hear how you navigated those situations. And if you or someone you know has experienced a recent challenge or life setback, I would love to hear those stories too. If you are unsure how these setbacks can work in your favor I may be able to help.
Always with love,
Heather
